Our Background
BYTEmonkeys' founders, Virginia Hayes and Jimmy Dutt, bring well over 60 years combined industry experience to the Central Ohio production and post-production arena - and their wealth of expertise and indispensable knowledge is available to one and all.
Virginia, with her extensive background in all aspects of the production world, can pull together projects of virtually any size, format or scope without breaking a sweat or ruffling her Rolodex. Crews, gear, talent, locations, the works. And, you can be assured that every single position will be filled with exactly the right personnel and equipment for the job. In fact, most everything and everyone is right here in Columbus.
Jimmy, who began his career as a musician, composer and arranger, has been doing picture editorial and everything related to it for around two decades - with more than a decade prior to that immersed in audio production, post and sound design. He's also had a few stints in the "music biz" working with a diverse array of gold, platinum and Grammy
® award winning artists. Jimmy got in on the ground floor almost 30 years ago with drum machines, MIDI sequencers, synths and samplers along with some disk-based audio recording and editing - and was ultimately dragged into the Avid video editing world around 1991. Around a decade ago Jimmy added multimedia and DVD authoring to his ever-growing collection of virtual "hats".

Our Philosophy and Approach
It's really pretty basic: visualize the finished product and assemble the most appropriate talent and tools to best make it happen. We realize that part should go without saying, but as long as some folks continue to hammer screws with pliers we'll keep bringing it to light.
Why? Because just as a word processor doesn't necessarily make one a writer, nor does a camera necessarily make one a photographer or a computer and software make one an editor. The same thing can be said about virtually any craft or art from cinematography to carpentry: yes, the tools do make a difference - but what
really sets things apart is the talent, expertise and experience.
So we tailor the tools and talents to the unique needs of each project, drawing from an incredibly diverse and über-creative pool of artisans from across the spectrum. There truly is an
amazing amount of world-class talent in this community, and we can pull it all together for you.
We also believe that the best place for your budget is
on the screen - and we work tirelessly every step of the way to ensure that happens. We employ the same standardized AICP-sanctioned budgeting software and methods used daily throughout the world on everything from features to episodics to commercials to industrials & training. Everyone knows precisely what they're getting into from the start, what the true
actualized cost is at the end, and how the project and budget is progressing every step of the way - all in gorgeous black and white and boringly plain as day. As it should be.

Bytemonkeys was founded by two of the best, yet most unassuming people in the biz.
Jimmy sees things; hears them too. He's on intimate terms with all things that visit that mysterious place where technical and creative meet and dance. Lots of people can mindlessly squish files from one format to another, but J is on first name basis with all of them. He can tell you why a pinch of Sorenson added to mostly Divx will be best for YOUR project. And results will wow. The guys writing software call Jimmy for advice. But we don't keep him locked away. He's available to all our clients.
And don't worry. Even though his brain might be scary smart, Jimmy's a very real guy.
Virg makes stuff hap… Rabbits? Hats? They've already been delivered. Tuesday? No sweat, and we can still fit in a manicure if you'd like. Budget? She thrives on budgets and can always find a productive way through them. Smooth as silk every single time.

What can you say about a Columbus production community institution? Say the name Virginia Hayes and what immediately comes to mind is the consummate professional. For over 30 years, Virg has been the proverbial mother hen for just about every client who has ever done business in Columbus.
She began her career as a freelance production manager/producer. Her clients include: Schottenstein's/Value City Department stores, United Kingdom's ITV television, The Limited, Cardinal Health, M/I Homes just to name few. In 2000, Virginia took the many skills she had learned in both Film and Video production and put them to good use as Production Manager for SOS Video Communications. In each and every shoot, Virg wore many hats (Baseball, Fedora, you name it) and played multiple roles, often working as executive producer for her clients. But the skill that has endeared Virg to all who know her is the uncanny ability to staff a shoot with a perfect crew, not a talent to be taken lightly. Working with production crews is often a daunting experience but not for Virg, she can be counted on the keep the production moving like clockwork.
After leaving SOS in 2006, Virg continued her freelance career working for clients like Marshall University, Big Lots and Abbott Nutrition (Ross Products.) In 2008 she partnered with colleague and post-production guru Jimmy Dutt to form BYTEmonkeys, a full service production company that meets all of a client's creative needs. From concept to deliverable, BYTEmonkeys can provide every aspect of production on or under budget. Virginia is excited to embark on the next phase of her exciting career and invites you to join her on the adventure.
